and on May 8, my sister is born into this world and my life hasn't been the same since!

My sister is now 30. HOW did that happen?? Sometimes I forget she is no longer a kid, sometimes I get really confused and I'm the one acting like the kid. But she is a adult. My sister whom graduated Magna Cum Laude, a teacher, a wife & a fantastic Mother to two sweet little boys. She has incredible will power, a great dancer & a great cook. I've had the honor to be a part of her first thirty years & I hope to be a part of the next thirty.

Happy 6th Birthday to my nephew & godson Aidan. It really seems like yesterday going up to MI for his baptism. We only get to see Aidan a couple of times a year at best, but I feel I know him so well & he seems the same with all of us.

Aidan has a heart of gold & I love that he loves wet wipes! Every day his younger cousin Jack looks more & more like him. It is so sweet. Jack finally broke out of his shell & played wonderfully with him on their last visit here.
Aidan may only be 6 but he is already married and he is an accomplished jetpack fighter.

We can't wait to see you!! Have the best day & I hope your 6th year is the best one yet!!!

So Thankful

My Mom came out of her surgery with flying colors. She answered the phone today (with 2 IV's still in) cheerful despite her pain. She was already asking me to do stuff around her house before she returns-that's the Mom we know & love!
She was terrified about this surgery. She even wrote letters to all the kids in case she didn't make it through. Her recovery will be long and painful but I don't now anyone with her endurance.

So thank you to all for your prayers & thoughts. Mostly thank you God for being there with that doctor and my Mom.

Common Decency Tip #1

Since when did it become ok for kids to jump on other peoples furniture? Or how about furniture at all?? This past week, Jack had two friends over in different days. I was thrilled. He isn't in school right now & he can get lonely.

Both kids freely jumped on my couch & sat on the arm-parents right there in the same room.

HELL NO!!!!!!!

Because I love my little man & want him to keep his friends, I first said nothing but then when it continued, I politely said: "please don't jump on our furniture, I really need it to last".

I shouldn't have had to say anything!!!!!!

Haleigh & Jack would NEVER do that & if they did: trouble.

It's sadly happened with Haleigh's friends as well & then I'm not as nice.

But I really want to take it out on the parents. Do they not teach their kids any manners??? Wow. Unless I have furniture in a garage keep your feet off!!

I don't care the condition of mine or someone else's couch or chair, whatever. It's called respecting someone else's property.

Try & remember that parents next time your purchasing your $2000 sofa.

The Princess & the Frog

After just seeing Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs a few days earlier, this movie was a breath of fresh air. A throwback to the way Disney used to make their films-this will sure to be a classic.

I'm sure you know the story, so I won't bore with the details but if you and your kids love chubby alligators, feisty fireflies, and a whole lot of great jazz music, you will love this movie. And how could I forget the two most adorable frogs??

This Disney movie doesn't have your typical happily-ever-after ending (thank god!!!) but an ending you must see*.

GRADE: A+

New Moon: Twilight Saga

I happily give this movie a A+ A+ A+!!!!!

well, to be objective, to be true form to the book, it should have been a longer movie. Too many scenes were just touched on but MUCH better than Twilight.
Edward decides it is best to leave Bella & she falls into a deep depression. She decides to be reckless because that is the only way she can hear Edward's voice. She does develop a much closer relationship with her friend Jacob-who she learns is a werewolf. Werewolves & vampires are enemies (who knew??) so who does Bella chose? Does Bella ever see Edward again? Go see the movie to find out!! And better yet-TAKE ME!!!! (I mean, I've only seen it 3x!!)

A Christmas Carol

starring Jim Carrey

Haleigh chose this for her birthday movie. Ever since she was four, it has been a tradition to take Haleigh to a movie for her birthday. (no surprise, we love going to the movies!) Before I review this movie, I thought it would be fun to share some of the past movies we have seen for her birthday.
In no particular order: Chicken Little, Brother Bear, Beverly Hills Chihaua (no clue how to spell that), High School Musical 3, and one of or favorites, Santa Claus 2.

It is easy to say A Christmas Carol ranks close up to Chicken Little! A little better, I'll give it that.
We all know the story of Scrooge & the ghosts of Christmas pasts. Jim Carrey was great at playing Scrooge & just like Polar Express, the animation was fantastic. Unlike Polar Express, A Christmas Carol will not be easy for kids to watch.

This was a scary movie!!!!! Too scary. Way overdone & unnecessary. Not to say there weren't some fine moments of carolers, and snow falling. And I can't forget Tiny Tim & his family. The ending was great but the substance of the movie was ruined by so many scary images. Even for my kids who tend to like scary things. What a shame. A great alternantive is Mickey Mouse Christmas Carol. Cheaper too!!

GRADE: C

So it is a big deal for me to write, Haleigh got ALL A's!!!!!!!!!!

G FORCE

This is a older animated movie that was out in the late summer but a few months ago we discovered a $1.50 movie theater so Saturday I took Haleigh & Jack too see this.

Let's just say I'm glad I only spent $4.50. This is a Disney movie & Jerry Bruckheimer was a director. You would think with those two names it would surely be a hit. WRONG!!! At least for me anyways (and Jack-Haleigh did like it somewhat).

So there are four moles or some form of rodents that are special agents for the FBI. A plan doesn't go as planned so they are shut down and placed in a pet shop. From there they try to bust out & save the planet all in under 48 hrs.
There were some cute parts but this was no BOLT.
Some big names doing the voices too: Nicolas Cage, Penelope Cruz, Steve Buscemi to name a few.

GRADE: C+

Our beautiful niece Addie turned 1 yrs. old today! She is just as precious as her big sister Perpetua. In a perfect world we'd all live closer to each other or at least get to see each other more often.
From what I hear she is already giving her big brother Sebastian a hard time!

Alright, first up is Haunting in Connecticut. To be fair I only watched half & I wasn't feeling well & pretty sure I was a bit high on nyquil. Nevertheless, I nicknamed this movie Haunting in my Head. BOOOORING!!!! So a kid has cancer & the family moves from the city to the burbs to be closer to the hospital. They have to rent a house & it turns out the house was once a funeral home.

Ewwww, how original!!!! The boy thinks he's hallucinating from all the meds but it turns out they're...... G H OOSTS!!!! YAWN.

Second: Three Men & a Baby Oldie but goodie! I love this movie. How sad to know that if a movie came out now with the same title most people would assume it's about gay guys raising a baby. It is funny also to see how outdated the baby stuff is too! What a trio they were. Tom Selleck, Ted Danson & Steve Guttenburg. They should do something again. What a great apartment they had.
Haven't seen it? You're missing out! Rent it & be ready to laugh at the 80's wardrobe & hairdo's. Also great Gloria Estafan music in the movie (back then Miami Sound Machine). :)

For two wonderful hours I was transformed into a witch, a little girl and a Mom all at the same time. Seeing the Wizard of Oz at the theater was pure magic. My face was painted green, my licks were black & I had a wavy, long jet black wig. I was wicked (more so than usual ;) ). Sorry-no pics!!!!!!! (although people came up to me to take my picture-very nice). My dad forgot his camera & I am simply too cheap/poor to buy one.
I wasn't the only one dressed up. There were at least a half dozen 3-6 yr. old Dorothy's there. Ruby slippers and all. Precious.

Yesterday marked the 70th anniversary of this beloved film. Because of that, the theaters showed more than the movie. It showed us how the movie was made, how they first wanted Shirley Temple for the role of Dorothy but her voice just wasn't strong enough. Jack Hailey was the second choice for the Tin Man because the first man had a lung collapse from breathing in aluminum powder from the costume! The munchkins weren't children. They were "little people" and for some, it was the first time seeing others just like them.
Judy Garland was 17 yrs. old when she played Dorothy. She said her life was never the same after making this movie and neither was mine!
I have to add two things: It was so wonderful to see this movie with my dad because faithfully for 15 yrs. we watched it together. The theater was so packed (sold out in two) that we had to sit in two different rows so I sat in front of him with Haleigh. Above us was my Mom, dad, Jack & Jeff.
The other thing: Jack watched the entire movie, wasn't scared of the witch or the flying monkeys!!! That's my boy!! :)

Chalk One Up For John

I was shamefully watching an old episode of John & Kate (Jack LOVES this show-more than Franklin!!!) and it was the episode of Mady's (sp??) special day. (You've got cameras following you around, everyday is special kid). Anywho, I overheard John say to Kate about putting gas in the car. Kate proudly says on camera-straight into it I might add-"I don't pump gas, John does it for me."

SAY WHAT?! She then adds even pre-kids, when she worked as a nurse, John filled her car! I really hope she received some nasty mail that month. That's just pathetically sad. Who gets her gas now? TLC people? Oh what will she do when the show comes to end............perhaps when everyone is sick of her she'll have no choice but to pump her own gas.

I wish a very happy birthday to my sister-in-law Erin. To say "sister-in-law" is so silly because she is really like my real sister & a good friend. Erin is married to my brother John and together they have three beautiful kids (4th one soon???? ;) ) & I am honored to b a godmother to Perpetua.

Erin definitely brings out the teenager in me. First, she introduced Haleigh & I to High School Musical and then introduces me to Twilight. Let's just say my world has been turned upside down since that fateful day in Tennessee!

I love spending time with her and look forward to seeing you all soon!

It was a typical Friday. Quizzing Haleigh on the way to school one last time, "pay day" shopping, cleaning the church & choosing to go through the drive thru when I should take ourselves "home" to eat (I want to be in that apartment as little as possible). Did I mention why we don't have a house yet??? Let's see, Chick Fil A for breakfast (really that never happens because normally I'm in my pj's when I take Haleigh to school), McDonalds for lunch :( , but for dinner we did eat here-apartment-yuck.
Ok, so Jack has been NON STOP about Star Wars:Anakin-Darth Vader-Anakin-Darth Vader.....blah, blah, blah, blah! Can't we discuss Twilight??
Alright, so Jack decided to take a breather from Star Wars chatter & he says to me, "Mommy, is today your birthday?" I tell him it was yesterday. He says, "oh, happy birthday Mommy." me: "thank you Jack Jack".
Jack: "Mommy, how old are you?" me: "I'm 36". Jack: WHAT?! "Mommy, (in a much louder voice), that is so old!" "oh Mommy, that is awful!" (he says this smacking his forehead) I say: "Jack Jack, that's not old."
Jack says, "yeah, you're not as old as Grandmom". :)

Revolutionary Road: starring Leonardo Decaprio & Kate Winslet

The Time Travelers Wife: starring Rachel McAdams & Eric Bana (I think!) for sure The Notebook girl

Duplicity: starring Julia Roberts & Clive Owen

Talk about disappointment! Alright, I'm not totally pathetic, I didn't watch ALL of these this weekend. I'm out of order too but isn't that the theme of my life?
I saw Time Travelers Wife with my friend Tammy. We were trying to see Julie & Julia (her choice) but we didn't make it in time. I couldn't convince her to see "District 9" (alien movie) so we agreed on this.
I really like Rachel McAdams. Haven't seen her in much but I LOVE The Notebook & I really liked her in "Red Eye". "The Time Travelers " is based on a novel which I didn't read but the prreviews looked really good. I honestly can't remember all the details of the movie (plus I'm running late for work) but Rachel falls in love with a man who, as a child, was in a bad car accident. As a result, he somehow is able to travel in time. Cool right? well, not when you don't have any control over when it happens. It happens- A LOT. When he returns,he doesn't know the year, where he is & he is a nude! Not all bad since he had quite the cute tush. The problem I had was it a bit hard to follow & it was so depressing at times! My friend Tammy really cried & I just kinda thought, "I really should've bought some candy".
GRADE: B-
Revolutionary Road: loved Leo & Kate in "Titanic" (who didn't?) but wow, sooo different. Ok, takes place in the 1950's, she's unhappy as a housewife, her bahavior is quite erratic & Leo does his best but does have an affair. Again, depressing & ALMOST a disturbing abortion scene. ALMOST-the intent is there.
GRADE: C-

Duplicity: wasted $5 damn dollars. I want my $$$ back Julia-you over-paid democrat. The previews made this movie look soooo good. Maybe I'm not intelligent enough for this movie-I'll give it that. But after the first hour I said forget it!
GRADE: NA/ D- for what I watched! No wonder it bombed!!!!!

The stomach flu has hit all of us-BAD. Over the past few days I have come realize the importance of good quality toilet tissue. Pre-stomach flu I had been buying cheap stuff, embarrassed to admit.
However, since all of us have been frequenting the bathroom more, I have decided we need to be kind to our behind!

So if it hits you, stock up on cottonelle aloe vera or charmin ultra soft. The flushable wipes are a must too. Let's face it, you're going to need some coolness down there!

Wednesday, September 23rd "The Wizard of Oz" will be presented in high definition & IMAX theaters to celebrate it's 70th Anniversary!!!!!!

This is a huge thrill for me because I have never seen it in a theater. Nope, just on a regular 19 in. (maybe smaller) tube TV & I loved every time I watched it.
My dad & I believe for 15 straight yrs. we watched it together.

So take a break mid week & take your kids, go yourself , go with friends.

If you don't go let's me just say- "Ill get you my pretty!"

See Ya Summer

The calendar may say that summer officially ends in September, but it's over in our, uh, apartment ( I refuse to say house). First week of school under our belt, two quizzes, one test and plenty of homework. Two weeks ago Jack would pound on Haleigh's door at 11am begging her to wake up and now easily she rises with her alarm set at 6:45am.
This is one summer I'm thrilled to say goodbye to. Not the best one but I'd be a brat if I said it was all bad. Here is my recap. Good & bad.

June 3rd: Last day of 4th grade!!!! (a year of all A's I just have to add)
we all go see "UP" fantastic movie!!!! A+ Haleigh's friend Ann spends the night.
June 11th: Haleigh & Jack go to Tweetsie Railroad w/ Mom, Dad, John, Erin & S, P , A. Jack does GREAT spending the night w/ out me!!!
June 16th: Found out we did NOT get approved for a mortgage. A week later we tell our wonderful realtor who worked with us for 3 months.

We quickly decide to move into an apartment to save money. So far not so good!!

JUNE 25th: MICHAEL JACKSON DIES
I spend the next two days crying, mainly for the memories & the incredible impact he had on my childhood.

That same day our ass of a governor, Mark Sanford, admits (only because he was practically caught) to having an affair. Wow, am I bad judge of character. I had so much respect for that guy. As of this date, Jenny Sanford has kicked him out & I am hoping we soon hear of an impending divorce. She needs to set an example that it is not ok to stand by your man simply because of public office. Jenny Sanford has four boys to think about. Obviously our governor wasn't doing the same. Jenny Sanford is beautiful, well-educated (once worked on Wall Street) and had millions before Mark entered the picture. Sucker!!!

July 5th: Sarah Palin announces her resignation as governor of Alaska. (Is my world ending????) My parents are hopeful it's due to a pregnancy. I believe (more so after talking to Greg) that she is revving up for 2012!

July 24th: We are headed for a weekend to Charleston!!!! Had a great time with Greg & seeing lots of sights! The pics on facebook says it all. :)

July 27th: received a letter from our landlords that not only we aren't getting back any of our $850 security deposit, but they claim we owe them an additional $250. sorry, even after talking to Fr. Steve, I loathe them.

August 1st: after a horrible day, it ends with a car accident. Haleigh & Jack were NOT hurt. enough said.

August 15th: Go to Tennessee for a terrific weekend with all of our family (well, almost all). It was a lot of fun & wish we could've stayed longer. I'm worried about our brother Steve. I love Liz like a true sister & Nick is about to start college. He doesn't need to be worried about his Mom. Hopefully the best will come out of this. Prayers Prayers Prayers!!!!

Well, there you have it. More or less. We did see lots of great movies, did a lot of swimming & right across the street from us is a cute little ice cream shop. Not all bad I know. But next summer I better be singing a different tune.

Well, Ali Larter is no Glen Close & Beyonce for sure isn't Anne Archer, but I liked this movie more than I thought I would. Fatal Attraction? No, but a lot cleaner than Disclosure. I am feverish & lightheaded so this will be short.

Imagine That

Starring: Eddie Murphy & adorable Yara Shahidi

We happily discovered a $1.50 movie theater in Spartanburg & Haleigh has wanted to see this movie since it came out. We all went last night because Tuesday is "Stimulus Tuesdays" with $1.00 drinks & popcorn. We missed the first 10 minutes of the movie but I don't think we missed too much.

We loved this movie!! Eddie Murphy plays Evan, a divorced Dad who is a workaholic. His daughter, Olivia, is a 7 yr. old who is very attached to her blanket. The Mom & Dad make attempts to get rid of it but one night she tells her Dad that she can talk to her princesses. Olivia starts giving her Dad some work tips but of course the dad doesn't listen. The following day in a meeting, Evan realizes his daughter & princesses have some good business ideas!

This movie is heartfelt, funny & great for the entire family. I love Eddie Murphy in these roles. He was great in "Daddy Day Care" & he was great in this. Haleigh & Jeff loved it & Jack was a bit bored but he's a little young. I don't get why this didn't do well. Are people not in to family movies anymore or only if they are animated?

She's My Kid Alright

No movie to report for this Monday! However, I have a show to recommend. I was babysitting last Friday & Jonathon, who is 12, LOVES cartoon network. Blah. Unless it's Smurfs, Tom & Jerry or Flintstones, no thanks. I know the tween garbage on that channel.
Being the paid servant, I felt obliged to watch. Happily, I was surprised & my immaturity quickly surfaced.
The show is called Brainrush. A 30 min. reality show about kids randomly picked at a amusement park to ride a roller coaster & answer questions while riding. Every question answered correctly, they get $25. There are a total of 3 rides-more intense as you advance.
Haleigh & Jeff are already hooked & it is hilarious to see these kids & sometimes scary!
Check it out on Cartoon Network. Saturdays @ 8pm. Good Fun.

Not many people read my blog for those who do please pass this on. I was reading my emails today & there was one from the school. It was a letter to inform families that a child was seriously injured.

There is a single Mom, her name is Mary Beth. She has two kids, a boy & a girl. The Mom is slightly handicapped, walks with a limp & doesn't have full use of her one arm, can't remember which one. Her ex-husband lives in New York & her kids were there visiting with him. While in New York, her daughter Holly (who will be starting at Prince of Peace this fall entering 3rd grade) was attacked by a dog.
Most of her injuries were to her face & she has already undergone several surgeries in New York. She is returning to Greenville tomorrow but has a very rough road ahead of her with more surgeries & physical therapy.
Mary Beth is a really sweet person. She was a preschool teacher & in charge of the after school program at Prince of Peace. She couldn't afford the tuition, even with financial aid. From what I understand, her ex is not the nicest of guys and isn't too interested in his kids lives.

Holly spent a lot of time at the school & couldn't wait to be a student at POP. She is a beautiful little girl who has a lot of spunk.
Please keep this family in your prayers.

Defiance

I know this movie is a bit old now & many have seen it but for those who haven't or for those who have, see it & see it again. My Mom & Dad told me about this movie & maybe my brother, I don't remember.

This movie stars Daniel Craig, Liev Schreiber & Jamie Bell as the Bielski brothers. As with many WWII films, this is based on a true story. The year is 1941and the Jews of Eastern Europe are being attacked by the Nazis. As family members are being slaughtered, some Jews decide to make a run for it. Only a few start out, but over several months, their camp & resistance grows.
I started out watching this lying on the couch. Then I moved to the floor. By the end, I was just inches from the TV jumping up & down.
As the end seems near for these brothers, they become more determined to perservere & in seeking revenge for all the lives taken from them.
This movie is just as full of life as it is death. I can't believe it didn't receive more awards.

Daniel Craig & Liev Schreiber are superb. Excellent film. Forget renting, buy it.

I will say it one more time, I was truly blessed to be born when I was. I have a sense of lost just knowing kids today cannot experience what I was able to. Because when "Thriller" was released, all bets were off. Everyone was a fan.
For me it was before Thriller. Anyone who knows me knows I love The Wizard of Oz. The scarecrow was always my favorite. Then came along a very urban version of "Oz" simply called "The Wiz". I remember being so excited to watch it. Watched & then disappointed-except for the scene with the scarecrow singing "Ease on down the Road". Pure magic.
Then along came a channel called MTV & very fast my dad forbade it. I would sneak it in as much as I could when he was at work, back then they actual played videos: Twisted Sister, Quiet Riot, Rolling Stones, Black Sabboth-who could blame my dad? But with great rarity, MTV played a video called "Rock with You" by a young black singer named Michael Jackson-back then it had to be added, "from the Jackson 5". I realized it was the same person who was in "The Wiz" & that was it for me. Forget school work-I HAD TO DANCE!!!!
Well, I can't remember who it was, this was back in 1979, I was 6. It was either Kevin or Joe who managed to get me the cassette that probably cost $6 or $7. That Christmas I received my first radio with cassette player & I was good to go.
When "Thriller" came out my dad didn't stand a chance. My mom was just as glued to MTV as I was. "Billie Jean" first, then "Beat It" & lord have mercy, the "Thriller" video.
It didn't matter where we traveled, what state we were in, Michael was being played.
My parents knew I was serious about dancing. I wanted nothing to do with playing kick ball or tag, I wanted my own room-my space to dance.

Only until I became a parent did I realize the sacrifice it was for them to pay for not just one, but three & for a few months, four dance classes-for several years. I am forever grateful to my mom dad for that.

Not only am I thankful for when I was born, but where I grew up. I know my dad has such grief with Michigan, but I know he would agree there was only one Anita.

I am often sad & disappointed that I stopped dancing. I do think that was my gift from God & I hope He holds me accountable. I do believe it is one of my greatest sins for not pursuing my gift-my dream.
I'm pitifully out of shape & overweight but I know I can still dance. I do-often-just in the privacy of my ever-changing homes. I still have the technique (once a dancer-always a dancer for all) & I can still whip out a double piourette.
No matter what song was being played at the dance studio, everyone danced best to Michael.

He didn't stop til he had enough.

Why do I not have a house yet??? BECAUSE I LOVE GOING TO THE MOVIES!!!!!!!!

I saw this for one reason: Shia Lebouf. I don't even know how to pronounce his name but I so love him. I only saw the first Transformers less than a month ago because we have free movie channels & I surprisingly liked it. The second has more action but not as much humor. Shia is gorgeous & funny so go see it-or spend your $$ on Michael cd's. I don't have to-I loved him when he was ALIVE!!!!

Anyways, that Megan Fox is a tramp I'm sure of it & I hope she's really not dating Shia. She broke up with Brian Austin Green (David-90210) so she's no good.

The very best of my childhood died today. I'm so sad at the loss of someone I never knew but someone who had such a profound impact on my life. In this way, I feel like the luckiest person. I grew up when Michael Jackson emerged into my life and millions of other hopefuls wanting just a tad of his talent.
I wanted to be a dancer because of him. I danced the way I did because of him & I will always keep that with me.

TAKING OF PELHAM 123

Starring John Travolta & Denzel Washington

I saw this with my dad on Father's Day. It was either this or The Proposal. He didn't want to see The Proposal because Sandra Bullock does a nude scene. (I look forward to that actually) :)

This movie was actually pretty good. A lot of language that never is necessary but sometimes saying "mother f -----" is soooo satisfying. Especially right now, with everything going on in our lives. It makes me feel better. It goes like this: AES-those mother ******* .

Anyways, John Travolta plays Ryder, a messed up guy who knows a thing or two bout Wall Street and he hijacks a subway-Pelham 123, in NYC. Denzel is Garber, a just-demoted dispatcher who is under investigation for an alleged bribe. Ryder & his thugs take several hostages & in one hour demands $10 million. You know how it goes, don't get the money, a hostage gets a bullet.
The movie also stars James Gandolfini as the mayor (he of course takes a shot at Guiliani) & John Tuturro (he occasionally plays Monk's brother).
I love John Travolta. When he plays a bad guy, he is a bad guy. Think of him as the Mom in Hairspray then watch him in this! Denzel is flawless as usual.
Again, I could have done without so much language, but other than that great movie.

GRADE: B+

This is a quote from one of the two movies I will be reviewing for MOVIE REVIEW MONDAY.

First movie: Reservation Road starring Joquein Phoenix & Mark Ruffalo. We had free movie channels over the weekend and I came across this movie. I have to add that Joaquin Phoenix & Mark Ruffalo are two of my favorite actors & I was thrilled to see them in a movie together.
It is from 2007 & I don't think it made it to the theaters or maybe it wasn't widely released. That's too bad because this movie is Excellent. Heartwrenching, but excellent. I cried throughout most of the movie but was glued to the TV (could also be due to my laziness) & I think most will be too, especially if you're a parent.
I don't want to give too much away so I'll just tell the basics. It is set in New England and it is about two families involved in a fatal hit & run accident. Joaquin Phoenix plays a dad married with two kids. Mark Ruffalo plays a divorced dad who only gets to see his son when his ex permits. Jennifer Connelly & Mira Sorvino also star.
GRADE: A+

Next Movie: The Kite Runner

I got this through Netflix & have been wanting to see this for a long time. Well worth the wait & now I can't wait to read the book. This is about two boys growing up in 1978 Afghanistan. The one boy is wealthy and the other boy is the son to the house servant. This film has the title because both boys are very good kite runners and apparently is a popular event for the children & adults.
There are some tough scenes to watch but I believe it is really showing what life is like in Afghanistan and other parts of that region. The movie also shows the country being invaded by Russia in the late 80's & all the way up to the year 2000 with the Taliban in control. Sad but beautiful film. GRADE: A

Anyone else glad it's Friday??? I shouldn't be sitting here. I need to be cutting our grass-eh WEEDS. Then the church needs to be cleaned & oh, let's give it that extra shine for St. Joseph's graduation!

Jack needs new shoes. He is down to his flip flops. After school I have to take Haleigh to a craft store for feathers-for a social studies project due on Monday!!!!! A project due with 3 days of school left??
Then there's cleaning the school, an office building and I need to fit in my own home.
On a happier note the new Pixar movie came out today (UP )and I've read great reviews. Hopefully it won't just be offered in 3D-$10 for kids-don't think so!

I hope everyone has a great weekend! As Jack has been telling me: "I'll try to fit you in my schedule"

HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL

Like this movie needs to be reviewed I know. But Haleigh picked our Sunday night movie & even Jeff watched- all of it ( I do believe he is a bigger fan than Haleigh).
It was a bit of an emotional weekend, so nice it was nice to watch something so sweet.

So for anyone who hasn't seen this movie (is that even possible & do I want to know you??) this is where it all began.

The little Disney movie with mostly unknown stars. Zac Efron before he was a heartthrob, Vanessa Hudgens still known as Vanessa Anne Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale from that show on the Disney channel where Dylan & Cole Sprouse were bigger stars.

What is so great about this movie is the comedy. DETENTION-Ms. Darbus style. We can all relate to the eccentric teacher. Zeke-the cute jock who secretly loves to bake.
Ryan thinking he's being punked by Ashton Kutcher.
Need I mention how fantastic the dancing is? Hats off to Kenny Ortega-can't wait to see his version of "Footloose". Too bad for you Zac-I do believe he blew that one.

So if it's raining where you live on this Memorial Day, watch High School Musical, or the second, or third or all three!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations Kris Allen!!

I was a bit surprised but happily. Damn Jeff for always getting Idol right! What is so great about Kris was he was genuinely shocked. So humble & it seemed like for a second he was going to hand it over to Adam!

I thought Adam was a gracious loser, at least while the cameras were on him anyways. Adam went a bit overboard but that's exactly what he wanted to do.

What a great season, this is one Idol tour I'd like to see!

I happily guessed right about Shawn Johnson winning DWTS & after watching American Idol ,I have to go with Adam Lambert. Personally, I am torn. I agree with Simon, Kris won the first song but I do think Adam just took over the last two.
I do not like the rocker-gothic Adam. I HATE his tongue flailing about like it's having a seizure. I am turned off when his arrogance emerges ( I do believe it's a California thing ) & his clothes, YUCK-most of the time.
With that being said, what separates Adam from Kris (my ever so humble opinion) is his ownership he possesses on stage. In the years that I danced, and having the honor to learn by someone like Anita, I like to believe for at least 2 years, I had that feeling of ownership on stage. You hear & feel nothing else but the music. You are larger than life on that stage & nothing compares to that-at least for me anyways.
I get that from Adam-when he sang "Mad World". So much better than Tears for Fears. A couple of days ago I went to youtube & watched Adam perform "Black & White". Loved it.

I'll be thrilled if Kris Allen wins, it'll be a great finale!

HOTEL FOR DOGS

Starring Emma Roberts, Jake T. Austin, Lisa Kudrow, Kevin Dillon & Don Cheadle.

I thought this was a really cute movie & I'm really not a dog lover. But as you watch, it really is more about family and looking out for one another. Sister & brother Andi & Bruce are living with yet another foster family (Lisa Kudrow & Kevin Dillon) and they are not allowed to have any pets. Their dog "Friday roams the streets of New York and returns in the evening.
Friday ends up at the pound and big sis bails him out with all the money she has. On the way home, Friday runs into an abandoned hotel. Andi & Bruce follow and discover Friday has made some friends of his own. With the help of some friends, Andi & Bruce start saving dogs all over the city and open a "Hotel for Dogs".
Lisa Kudrow pretty much plays a mean version of "Phoebe" & Kevin Dillon is funn as the rocker, dim-witted husband.
I am a huge fan of Don Cheadle & was surprised he'd be in a movie like this but as usual he does a great job as the social worker.
Good family movie, Haleigh liked it.

BEDTIME STORIES

This stars Adam Sandler & Keri Russell. Haleigh & Jeff saw this at the theater over Christmas. I opted to see another movie with Nivek.
I liked this movie, very cute & I love Adam Sandler in these kind of roles. He is sweet but you still get to see a bit of his obnoxious side w/out going overboard.

He is asked to watch his niece & nephew who he hasn't seen in 4 years. Hi sister, played by Courtney Cox, is losing her job & looking for work in Arizona. She is a single Mom & quite uptight-very Monica-like.
So Uncle Skeeter decides to tell them bedtime stories but when the kids add their own endings, funny things begin to happen!

Lots of imagination, great for Haleigh's age (5 & up I say) Jack liked it but he likes just about anything Haleigh likes.

Nice movies for dads, watch it to see why!

Have you heard of this movie? It stars Kirk Cameron. I put this movie in our queue because my friend Julia talked about it so much. I'll be honest, I had my doubts because she kept referring to it as a "christian" movie.
So I watched it Saturday night and LOVED it. I really recommend it for anyone married or about to be married.
Kirk Cameron plays Captain Caleb Holt and is married to Katherine. The movie takes place in Georgia and I believe they have been married around seven years. The marriage is falling apart and they are about to get a divorce. To find out the rest you need to watch it!
Oh, I was never a big fan of the show Growing Pains so I never gave much thought to Kirk Cameron. Well he is all grown up now & gorgeous!

American Idol!!!!!! whoooooo!!! HOT HOT HOT!!! Did I mention I thought tonight it was, in my small opinion, the best of the season. I cried, I sobbed like I knew all of them. Wow.

Kris Allen: opened the show & he brought it........then comes ALLISON!!!! you go girl! She is raw, she is different & she is young which makes her all the more incredible. LOVED HER.

Yikes, Danny or Matt next??? I'm old. I thought Danny's best & I never get too excited over him. His ending was perfection, very nice. Matt was soo good but not my fav tonight-so love him though.

Adam: a bit overdone. So agree with Randy on this one.

clearly Jamie FOXX was on for damage control for all the crap he said about Miley Cyrus. But I have to say, when you put that out of your mind, I liked his advice. I don't want anyone to leave!!! What a night. VOTE!!!

Never forget this. My sister & I believe my brother had the privilege of visiting different memorial sights in Europe. If I could go anywhere out of the country, it would be here & hopefully with my kids. It is so easy to take for granted our freedom. Freedom of religion, freedom of race,freedom to speak out our beliefs. God bless all who perished during this tragic time and to all survivors who had to ind a way to go on with their lives.

Seventeen Again

This will be a hit for almost all Zac fans. Rated PG 13 & should be for the most part. With all the promo for this movie I don't think I need to give a description. I'm not a stickler with ratings. If Haleigh wanted to watch a scary movie & it was "clean" but rated R for well, killings, that's fine with me.
There was a classroom scene that talked about condoms but I thought it was done in good taste. Zac even managed to squeak out, "wait until marriage". I'm sure some would say that didn't have to have that scene at all but so what. I personally would rather see the scene with condoms then an explicit sex scene.

It would have been nice to see a bit more of Matthew Perry. He is so funny but more of Matthew would have meant less Zac I guess. There were some really funny scenes & let's face it, Zac is just beautiful. Acting not so bad either. GRADE: B+

Well, we had a busy weekend with movies. At the last minute, we saw MONSTERS vs ALIENS with friends Friday night. This was a lot of fun for a few reasons. First, we saw it with our good friends so Haleigh sat in her own row with her friend & Jack sat next to his friend Zach. Second, we saw it at the Carmike in the big THX theater. I haven't been to that theater in years. It closed down but reopened a few years ago. I used to go way back many Friday nights with my brother John. We also sneaked in to quite a few, good times.
Third, this movie was really funny! I didn't expect to like it but I really did & kids will love it. The monsters are hilarious & Reese Witherspoon is "Ginormica" . Good fun & lots of laughs. GRADE: A

MOVIE REVIEW MONDAY (a little late)

I finally watched Slumdog Millionaire. I regret not seeing it in the theater. This movie was excellent-very sad at times but finally a movie with a good ending. I was completely wrong thinking it took place in Iraq. Nope-India. It is so sad to see how life is over there. Children on the streets alone is as common as seeing a coke bottle in the road here.
Slumdog refers to the boy Jamal who manages to become a contestant of the Indian version of "Who wants to be a Millionaire?" He is one question away of winning & he is arrested on suspicion of cheating. He then recounts his life on the streets. This is where I say put it on the top of your list to rent or buy. I will say Jamal is so sweet & kind and I believe what keeps him going is his search for Latika.

Hannah Montana.

We saw this Monday in the theater and Hannah fans will not be disappointed. It could have been a bit longer and it wasn't the best ending. Great music & Miley is a good little actress. If I may say, she can sing! Cute little figure too. Could have done without the fight scene between Miley & Tyra Banks.

Today is April 9th, Kevin's birthday. He has called at least 37 times since Christmas to remind everyone and now I am trying to reach him to wish him a happy birthday and tell him we love him & miss him. There is no answer.......it is just after 8am in San Diego. He's out smoking a cigarette most likely. No one there will even wish him a happy birthday, he won't even get his cards until next week because he's back in the hospital.

In our family full of some nutty people, Kevin can be at times the most grounded. He is full of love for his niece & nephews and when he wants, he can offer some great advice.
I know it is a Lent, but I must say I do believe God messed up a bit when he chose to give Kevin a mental illness.

Imagine this: Kevin as a husband & dad. Maybe one day. No one deserves it more.

Movie Review Monday

Last night I finally watched Seven Pounds with Will Smith. I love Will Smith & it's easy to forget you are watching him. He gets into his character so well. I can see why it didn't do so well at the theater, it is a sad movie that is a bit slow at times but I still recommend it.
Some of the scenes are excellent & Will Smith (Ben Thomas) does a good job as a unhappy tax auditor. Rosario Dawson also starred (remember her from my Edward's 25th Hour?) She plays Emily with a heart problem who becomes very close with Ben.
It deals with suicide so it is a heavy hearted movie but teaches a good lesson.
I can't really give it a grade but I say worth renting-not for kids!!

Last night I actually got to take a quick walk alone-no kids! No Jack!!! And Jeff brought home dinner, very nice. Anyways, I was walking around the block and there was a couple in their front yard putting up Christmas lights & decorating their door with gold foil paper and hanging a wreath. I'm pretty nosy so I jokingly said, "getting in the Christmas spirit a little early?" They said no, they were just getting ready to celebrate Christmas. Their son was coming home from Iraq after not seeing him for over a year. They said they would not celebrate any holiday until their son was home. They then told me he is their only child which just seemed to make it all the more sweeter.
I don't know this couple but I just teared up being so happy for them. Maybe right now they are opening gifts with their son-Merry Christmas!

Movie review Monday-eh, Sunday!

I couldn't wait until Monday to talk about Twilight. I know there is a lot of hype about this movie and it doesn't disappoint! The movie takes place in Washington state and you get the sense of the dreary setting and Kristen Stewart who plays Isabella (Bella) is perfect as the pale skinned dark hair love interest. She is new to the school from Arizona where she decided to live with her dad for awhile.
Now Robert Pattinson who is the character Edward Cullen (vampire) is excellent, the two of them have great chemistry. What is great about this movie is I really don't recall any bad language and there aren't any sex scenes. However, I can unshamefully say I was hoping there would be something with them!
I can't wait for the second movie & now I want to read the book.

Make a date night with Twilight.

Ah, Monday is almost over. What better way to get through the day then to go see a movie? Not always easy to do, especially at the start of a new week but in my small corner of the world, a weekday means a day off for Jeff.
So in honor of Haleigh's fantastic report card, we went to see Disney's Race to Witch Mountain. Grade: B+
DVD worthy for sure, or a cheapo theater! Although, girls (and some guys) you may want to check it out in the theater for the preview of Zac's new movie Seventeen Again. And yes, there is a poster in the lobby!!! 25 days until it arrives in theaters!!!! But I'm really just counting for Haleigh.
Ok, to watch at home, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. I watched last week. Grade: A+ A Must See!!!! I'm so impressed with Haleigh that read the book-outstanding. Ummm...2016, Haleigh VP nominee for Sarah Palin?? Does the 35 rule apply to VP's???

Snow day #2!!!! Oh yeah, no school again for Haleigh & all kids really in the upstate. Most of the snow has melted but we did get down to brrr 18 degrees last night. I do think there is enough snow to go down our hill one more time before the balmy 34 degrees sets in at noon.
So to all the people who said "I don't want snow"! Ha!!! I dedicate this post to all of you meanies. It is still winter people.
I have a right to complain, I have lived in the South for 16 years. How is that possible????
I feel for the north for all the bitter temps you've had but I so miss lots of snow to really play in. So time to get dressed & go outside because by the end of the week it'll be close to 70-yuck!
Thank you mother nature & God (I haven't been too nice to him lately due to lack of snow) you really made my day but more importantly-Haleigh & Jack's.

Jeff & I were quite spoiled today & saw not one, but two movies. Thanks Mom & dad!!! Both our mornings started off bad . Rain falling when should be snow, Haleigh nervous about science fair, Jeff upset because a meeting was canceled & no one bothered to give him a phone call, I slept terrible & Jack was in a good mood because he knew Pop-Pop would be taking him to Panera & Best Buy.
I really didn't think we were going to go out but we did & I convinced Jeff that we really should check out Friday the 13th. I said if it's bad we'll then see Taken& forgo dinner plans. So in we went for the first movie with a whopping 6 other people (it was in the afternoon though) & I should've known what kind of movie it was going to be after seeing the previews.

PATHETIC. This version does no justice to the original three. It was more like a porno flick with some brutal killings. They didn't even play the music! And who knew to go water skiing you had to be topless?? It was a waste of $15 but more importantly a waste of our time!!
To add in quickly, "Taken" was very good. Liam Neeson is great-go see!!!

In the spirit of Friday the 13th taking the top spot at the box office, I thought I'd reflect on some of my favorite scary movies. But first, let's take a minute to congratulate the future slasher writer- our own Nick Sanda!!!
Nick is graduating this May from high school & I just found out he is his class valedictorian. Also he is President of the National Honors Society-way to go Nick. Nick has a passion for scary movies & he will be going to a college that has a good film school. Start rolling in scholarships-you'll be lucky to have him. Now this isn't a plug to put me in one of his films, but he can, I can be the first one killed off, no problem. :)
Sooooo..... Jeff & I will be going to the movies hopefully Wednesday. It's been all planned out to see Taken w/ Liam Neeson. I really want to see it but is it worth to spend 2 hrs. on Friday the 13th??? Nick says yes for the most part- the trailer does look enticing. I was a huge fan of the first three-give or take some scenes.
The top of my list is still the original Halloween. Now someone in my family, I won't say who but the name rhymes with Don, really hyped up the remake that came out a few yrs. back.

AWFUL!!!!!!!!! Really violent-kid violence too, explicit sex scenes-one is enough, c'mon. I mean, I'll check out Nip Tuck now & then. When I want to watch a scary movie, I want it to scare me!!
Also on my list are Cape Fear, The Birds, Racing with the Devil & The Strangers.
One that I will NEVER watch nor my kids while they live with me, is The Exorcist. Ugh, I hate just looking at the title. I guess being catholic & knowing posessions are a real thing is what is the scariest. It is so scary that I can't even listen to the music.
So I hope on this Valentine's weekend some of you made to a movie-scary or not.

Today Haleigh's class went on a field trip to the Roper Mtn. Science Center. It was a loong day, 5 hrs. to be exact & I'm really not a Science kinda girl. I am a people watcher though & there was plenty to see.
For some reason Prince of Peace had to share most of it's time with a fellow 4th grade class from a public school. They really didn't interact just really shared space.
Haleigh's class went in dress uniform which means what they wear on mass days. I am a big fan of uniforms, not the polyester, but if made well & cute, I think it is best for school. Just my opinion, saves money on clothes & keeps clothes nicer.
The other class were in regular clothes but almost all of them really looked like slobs. Maybe that goes with being a 10 yr. old but it looked like they just came from rolling around on a playground. I know parents probably want to keep the nicer clothes out of school & I don't blame them but at this age are kids really throwing sand? Well, I guess some are. I'm just lucky with mine I guess. Haleigh was even careful with her outfits in preschool & Jack still won't walk on sand-with shoes on! Jack just may get picked on, we'll see.
It wasn't just the attire though. On this field trip the kids actually had to do work-astonomers-some scientist dude with really greasy hair, some lady with a PHd in some area of science-this was no day on the farm!
A lot of participation was expected & after the first hour it was clear which group of kids really knew what was what. Not only did the other kids not raise hands but they (not all) were being so obnoxious.
I could never be a teacher-I do not have patience nor the creativity to teach. I was in charge of 6 kids which included John Paul & he's been a bad seed since kindergarten.
It really sounds like I'm knocking public schools & I guess am with this incident but in all fairness I've never gone to a public school except for preschool & kindergarten which 31 yrs. ago was basically playtime. I know there are great kids in public schools & I know plenty of not-so-good kids in private schools.
Today was just so clear cut that the rowdy kids really took the spotlight (for a lack of a better word) from the kids who really wanted to learn.

It wasn't just just the kids. Haleigh's class has 2 teachers & it seemed like there were 2 teachers with the other class as well. I believe a good student goes hand in hand with a good teacher. Haleigh's teachers this year are sharp. They are tough but know when to have some fun, they follow through with what they say & the tests they give are good. Great essay questions & Haleigh is challenged. Now I don't know anything at all about the other teachers, just what I saw today. They let some of the kids have control & when they finally tried to get them to behave they sounded like a whiny wife!
I complain a lot about Haleigh's school but mostly because of the money. Haleigh loves her school & I was so proud to help represent them today.

Do I even want to venture onto another topic like the woman who just had the 8 babies in CA? Ugh, not tonight. Maybe tomorrow.

Three Little Pigs

While most are watching the Super Bowl I sat Jack in front of the TV so I could quiz Haleigh. I love when a cartoon gets Jack laughing & these two are new so I thought I'd share.
First, Toot & Puddle. Two pigs who travel to different countries with lots of adventures. Very cute, cute little house, the pigs wear overalls, hopefully there will be books soon to follow.
Next is Olivia. You all know the books. This one just started & Haleigh even likes it so I'm sold. Jack will watch anything with her, knowing he can share a bean bag with her is too good to pass up. He watched a 90 minute American Girl movie & actually watched all of it.
Alrightie, time to get back to my peanut m&m's, bottlecaps, mounds, snickers......I think that's it.

The Tooth Shall Set You Free!!!

Ah, I'm having a great time on my pain meds. Pain pills for everyone!! And it's foggy out, wow. Today I had my second root canal in less than 2 years. Fun. The first one was horrible-$700 practically thrown away & did I mention the the person who did it? DR. NALLY. Thornblade snob with his little mut running around the office in a sweater. I believe tomorrow I will demand some of my money back or bye bye poochie. This was my second visit with this new endodontist. DR. Christopher NOEL. FANTASTIC. Very nice and doesn't believe in someone taking out a second mortgage to cover the bill (well, we need one first).
Since June, I was told by a real idiot dentist-DR. SCOTT RHODEN, that I will lose a tooth-my front tooth (#25 to be exact). I was then told I will need an implant which costs at least $5000 & insurance doesn't cover it because it is cosmetic. Blah blah............... So I sang this song too many times.
It was very hard for me, the thought of having a partial in my mouth for possibly forever was really upsetting, especially when everyone I spoke with about it all said the same thing: they suck!
What is an endodontist you may wonder? Basically a dentist with 2-3 years more schooling. They specialize in root canals & other facial traumas. They have hospital rights & all have to write a thesis. I now have this in the back of my head for a career choice for Haleigh. Oh she's not going to school for just 4 years! But Sarah Palin will take care of that law when she's in office no doubt.
Anyways, I m very thankful for everyone who humored me & listened to me for months about this. I am also so thankful to my dad & Jeff for telling me to get a second opinion!!!
Can you imagine having a money hungry or plain out incompetent doctor who tells you have some life threatening illness but then decide to get a second opinion & it turned out to be ok? And this was only a tooth. So today was a great day. Thank you to Rush Limbaugh for blasting Starbucks (I have no idea why but it was good when I listened) Thank you to the idiot caller to the Mike Gallagher show who reminded me why I am a Republican (or at least vote as one) thank you to Dickey's Barbecue for having crushed ice with my iced tea & thank you to Walgreens for having a great pharmacy. I'm done.

Sharon pleaded & pleaded with to do this blog post so I had to since she is responsible for it's gorgeous look. What brought this on? I was on the phone with Shar (for Mom's verbal laziness) and she says something like this to Pat "are you making the guac"? Guac?? Um, guacamole? What is guac? Just like people saying vic insted of victim. Seriously people! The mouth is muscle & let's not forget it too needs exercise!
The internet is a prime example of verbal laziness. We send an email rather than making that phone call, sometimes a dreaded one. Who exactly invented the internet? Someone who is a believer in verbal laziness that's who. He/she may have a thin waist line but I bet a really fat mouth!

I'm so tired I don't know why I'm sitting here. In a second I'm going to call Greg & cuss him out for never commenting on my blog. But before that, I just wanted to add something I forgot on my previous blog. It is rare that I'm ever driving alone in the car, so when I am, the radio is loud-very loud. In my short 10 minute drive to the dentist I must've heard Britney's song "Womanizer" like 4x.
I really don't think it's that great of a song but this line caught my attention: "lollipop, so you think that I'm a sucker". That is so great. There was really more of a lull after lollipop. lollipop--------so you think that I'm a sucker.
Love it!! I'm really going to borrow it one day. You go Britney, you young, smoking little mommy!

Let Me Just Say............

I just wanted to throw a few things out here. First, I'm asking all kids to pray for snow. If you don't want it where you live, be specific, God will know. South Carolina-Greenville-Greer_MY STREET!! WE WANT SNOW!
Next. Ever think about getting a second opinion? Go with that feeling! For months I've been seeing a real ass of a dentist. (there really is no other way to describe him) He always made me feel like 300lbs & like my teeth were all rotted. Anyways, I finally saw a different dentist & he is wonderful!! He gave me a different diagnosis & completely understood that as much as I want to dig $5000 out of my backyard, I just don't have that magic shovel.

So tomorrow night @ 8pm President Bush is giving his farewell speech to the nation. Personally it makes me sad. I think I am more sad that there will be so many Americans who will not care what he ha to say. I am not one of those and I hope the saying "don't know what you got til it's gone" holds true here. I hope people realize what a great President George W. Bush has been for these trying 8 years. I'd love to be able to tell him face to face what a wonderful President & man he is. Some countries wish they could be so lucky.
Jeff got another cleaning job but it's only twice a month. Thank goodness. We will give most of the work to our friend who has been out of work. He has always been so generous with us.
I'd love some input on pricing. Of course not many read my blog & NO ONE (except my sweet sister) comments! As Jack would say, "punk!" Anyways, someone said we were asking too much. .8cents a square foot too much?? is it my fault there office is bigger tan my own home!? I did some checking & the norm seems to be around .15 cents & some places were as high as .40cents. Yikes.

HOW DO YOU SPELL VICTORY??

H A L E I G H !!!!!

Today Haleigh had a basketball game & maybe there really is something to home court advantage. Prince of Peace WON!!! The score was 16-12. Close game, very close. Haleigh had a late night. It was the Daddy/Daughter dance and she was out dancing at the Marriott until 10:30pm. She was tired & sore this morning. In fact, 30 minutes before the game she said she didn't even want to go to the game. Haleigh was also sick last week with a pretty bad asthma flare up. She missed practice & hadn't practiced much over Christmas break. I expected her to sit out most of the game, she's a team player, she'll be there for the other girls.

Some may just start calling her the play maker (just like Troy). Like I said, POP scored 16 points. Haleigh scored 10 of those!!! Way to go Haleigh. What a way to start the new year.

TV ALERT

I can count on one hand all the people that read my blog but it is my duty to report that the new season of Monk is on this Friday (the 9th) @ 9pm. All you closet Monkaholics be sure to tune in! For all you pathetic people that chose not to watch, just think how much better '09 would be for you if you let Monk into your life. Tony Shaloub is brilliant & you may get some good cleaning tips as well as your fix of some dead bodies. Since I love TV & movies (I may be the pathetic one) I will make some suggestions for my oh so few followers.

We don' have much longer to wait for LOST!! Umm, 2 weeks I believe. Also one of my favs is CSI:NY. You gotta love Gary Sinise, he is one celebrity that actually goes to Iraq & support the troops. The show has a great cast. Anyone remember the show Providence? Melina Kanakeredes also stars & is great.
As for movies Haleigh & I just watched Kitt Kitredge: An American Girl with Abigail Breslin. Sooo good. It takes place during the depression in Cincinnati & also stars Chris O'Donnell as her dad & Joan Cusack & Stanley Tucci are hilarious. Haleigh loves the American Girl dolls & now I want to get her the Kitt doll. There are only $95!!! But lets not forget the $16 for shipping. I just saw her grades for the second quarter online & she has ALL A's!! :) American Girl people should give a discount for this American girl!
As for the big screen I last saw Four Christmas's w/ Reese Witherspoon & I love her but I'd say dvd worthy. Does Vince Vaughn know how to play any other character than a sarcastic sexist pig? Perhaps I've missed some of his finer work (Wedding Crashers, The Breakup...gross!) For the small portion of my brain that has smarts I really want to see Valkerye. For the rest of my brain I am excited & not ashamed to say we are all venturing out next Friday to see Mall Cop with Kevin James. Looks hilarious & didn't you just love him in Hitch? Also the new Clint Eastwood movie looks very good.
Alrightie, that's it. Oh, thanks to Erin for telling me that HSM 3 will be on dvd February 17!!! Can't wait til April for Seventeen Again-gotta love Zac!!!

"Where's the Salsa??"

I just had to share this. Here we are at home taking down the tree, raining out (should be SNOW) and I pull out a bag of tortilla chips. Haleigh & I are eating away & Jack becomes aware of our munching and he wants in on it. He takes a chip from the bag, looks up at me with those big blue eyes and says "Mommy, where's the salsa?" I tell him we are out and he moans and says "awww, I can't eat this now! "what am I supposed to do with this?" (looking at chip) I tell him we will buy some salsa tomorrow & he can eat the chip plain for now. He stomps his foot and tells me that is not good and he cannot wait until tomorrow. He needs his salsa! Someone, anyone want to bring me some salsa? I'll share. Promise.

So long 2008. What a year. It would be wrong if I complained because we truly were blessed this past year. I wish it cold have been a better year for so many others. Loss of jobs, loss of homes, loss of life.
Yikes, don't pull out those tissues just yet.
Alrightie, here are some highs & lows (in my opinion) of '08

January: We drove up to Asheville,NC to stand outside in -4 weather just to see snow but after 5 min. & a security guard looking at us like we were nuts got back in the car & left.

February: Haleigh sold the most girl scout cookies & got a pin as a reward (Jeff took the order form to work which now he can't do :( (so really Jeff should have received the pin)

March: I believe around this time Sharon started threatening me to start a blog.

April: Many family birthdays, somewhere in southern CA Zac Efron was leaving a gym.......... maybe going to record "Scream"

May: Jeff is in full swing with a cleaning business. Licensed, insured, bonded....oh my! Haleigh finishes 3rd grade racking up several awards

June: We take a long over-due trip to Ohio & MI. Go to Cedar Point with Sharon, Pat, Aidan & Brennan where Haleigh braves roller coasters & I almost cry on a kiddie one (it was faster than 40 miles an hour!!!!!) Pat takes Aidan on the same roller coaster & I want to kill him!!!!! Earlier in the month we went to Tweetsie Railroad with Mom & dad, John, Erin, Sebastian, & P to ride Thomas!! Haleigh also says goodbye to her best friend Janelle. I also say goodbye to my good friend Karen. Can't wait to visit them in PA!!

July: We move to a slightly larger house just around the block but hope to call it home for at least the next 5 yrs (unless we move up. Geographically speaking)

August: Haleigh jumps off the diving board as loves it. The world meets and falls in love with (the smart ones that is) Sarah Palin. As much as I love Sarah Palin, I have as much disgust for Caysey Anthony, so-called mother of Caylee Anthony.

September: Jack turns 3!!! John totally makes me believe their naming their baby Palin. Countdown is on for HSM3. My Mom has knee surgery day after Labor Day.

October: Addie is born on October 13th :) (her 5th bday it will be Friday the 13th)
We head up to Cary,NC on the 23rd to meet, ok, who am I kidding? WE WENT UP TO SEE HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 3 w/ ERIN!!!!!!!! FINALLY IN THEATERS!!!!!!! Of course we also went up to meet little Addie & see Sebastian & Perpetua .
We went to the 4:40 showing (right??) then went back for the 10pm showing :) No hint at all that Erin just gave birth 10 days earlier.

November: Haleigh turns 10. She is growing up too fast! John McCain loses the election but I believe it is paving the way for Palin 2012! 11-5-08: George Bush smiles to himself at the thought of what Obama will do the next 4 years. (ok, I made that up-Bush cares way too much for this country to do that)

December: Here we are! we had a great Christmas, Kevin is here & hopefully moving back. Jeff somehow stayed healthy when we all had been sick & Sharon & Pat are buying their first home!!! It really was a great year in so many ways. I am grateful to all the people that said yes to Jeff when there are so many people out of work. I truly hope this new year is especially good to all the people who didn't have it so good.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful Christmas. It was a nice one in our house. It is still going. Jeff is now putting together Jack's Mickey Mouse race track & we are heating up the rest of the chicken enchiladas. Jeff is excited to watch either the Dark Knight or Cheaper By the Dozen with Haleigh. Haleigh is s thrilled that she got an American Girl doll & a Nintendo DS. I told her not to get used to it, but it is so nice giving them something they really want.
It is so nice having my sister here with her family but I'm sad that it isn't the trip they planned. Aidan & Sharon are sick & I know they haven't gotten to do all things they wanted to do. Jack has been acting like a deaf child around Aidan & Brennan but when they are out of sight it is nonstop "where are my cousins??" I wish we could be with everyone. I wish John & Erin were here with the kids & I'd love to be with Joe & Steve and all their crew. I told Jeff I'd really like to be in Ohio/MI for Thanksgiving or Christmas. I'd love a white Christmas!!! This warm weather is nice but just not right for Christmas. I am so grateful however for the break in the heating bill!
Having Kevin home is nice too. He mostly is outside smoking but he really loves watching the kids play and I love hearing him laugh while watching MASH. The two of us saw a movie earlier and he really was laughing.
It is always nice having Dave Walters over and I hope one day he gets remarried and I know he would love to be a father. I watch Haleigh & Jack and I know how much Jeff's Mom would just love to be here. She's be thrilled to know Jeff made mexican food. I miss her & I know she misses the kids so much.
I'm also sad that our good friend Greg isn't having the Christmas he & his family should be having but instead planning a funeral.
This was also our first Christmas with a fireplace. Jack was so cute. Every time he opened a present from Santa he would go to the fireplace & yell "welcome Santa!" I think Haleigh enjoyed watching him as much as opening her own presents.
Well, I'm all cozy in my new slippers and Haleigh is anxious to look at American Girl doll beds. I hope everyone has a wonderful last hour of Christmas!

The next Troy Bolton?? Or maybe better. Haleigh is playing basketball & by coincidence her jersey number is 14. Any HSM fan knows that is the same number as Zac's character. Today was her second game and although they lost (they played against Temple of Israel) they all played much better. Haleigh had a great game & even scored! I have to admit, it is a blast watching these games. I really am not into sports but when it is someone you know, especially your child, it is easy to get into it. Haleigh's Uncle Kevin was there & he even watched most of the game. He knows sports & I loved it when he yelled, "pass Haleigh the ball!" Thanks Nevik :)

Alright, I was tagged by Sharon but first, like my Christmas look? BIG thanks to Norahs for the festive look. Ok then. List 6 things I am thankful for. HAPPY THANKSGIVING

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! My family is all scattered but close in thought today. Parents on a cruise, John & Erin home in Cary, NC, Sharon & Pat in Detroit (hope you made it to the parade!!!!), Joe & Steve also in MI, Kevin in San Diego. I do have a brother & sister right here in SC less than 20 miles away but we may as well be in different countries. I do wish them happiness & good health. We are spending part of the day with our other Uncle Dave in the family (Dave Walters) before he has to work. We are not cooking today-well, Jeff isn't cooking I should say. We are going to a Thanksgiving Buffet @ The Hyatt downtown & we are blessed today with a 60 degree day so maybe we can do some walking afterwards. Then we are taking the kids to see the Disney movie BOLT. Then we are coming home to decorate!!! Hopefully talk to family & finish watching 2 movies we fell asleep to last night. It's been a crazy & scary year so far: the economy, so many people losing their jobs & homes, the stock market tanking....... yet there still is so much to be thankful for.

1. Not to sound overly religious but really I have to start with God. How could I not? I'm so thankful to God for my family, our health & resources. He has blessed us greatly this year-thank You!!!!

2. Jeff. He works at least 12-16 hrs. just about everyday but somehow keeps going. I met him working-he hasn't changed in the 14 years I've known him-he is such a hard worker & a great dad.

3. Haleigh & Jack. I love them so much!! I'm so lucky they are my kids.

4. Sharon, John, Erin, Pat........... So glad to have them in my life. I count on all of them so much & we have a great time together. I couldn't ask for better godparents to my kids!!!!

5. Nivek. The best big brother EVER!! (and Uncle :))

6. Joe. You won't ever meet anyone nicer or more generous. He is a big kid & a great brother.

7. Steve. I lived with him for 2 years & he helped me so much-he is so much fun to be with on family vacations & a great cook!!

8. Greg. I met him when Haleigh was 1!!!! He is such a wonderful friend, financial advisor (wrong about gas prices though Gerg!!!) & jack's godfather.

9. Zac Efron, Tony Shaloub, Hammett Bridge Rd. FINALLY being open, chocolate, coke & the smell of sauerkraut.

1o. My parents. They are always here for me & the best grandparents!

John: FBI Most Wanted

This may what we all may be reading soon. Why? You ask. I was just listening to the radio & was laughing hysterically. The guys on 93.7 were saying they were all felons-even sweet vegetarian Heidi Aiken. They got my interest so I listened. The DJ was reading that a 12 year old boy in Stewart,FL was arrested for passing gas. The teacher said the boy was purposely "breaking wind" & the smell was so bad that it was a disruption to the entire class. The teacher called the police & the kid was arrested! The article did state the boy was also shutting off the computers during class but it was the gas that ultimately got him fingerprinted! This will be on his permanent record. Good thing he lives in Florida, he may always have to work outside!
Seriously though, getting arrested for, as we say in our house, "passing bunnies". C'mon! I'd like to meet him-he may be a relative. My brother John has A LOT of gas. He recently added more fiber to his diet. Was that a good move? Not for anyone near him. Years back, before marriage & kids, my parents, John, Sharon & myself went to Mcadenville,NC to see the Christmas lights. My dad had a van-a full size one I think. It was cold out-too cold to have the windows cracked, & I think John was sleeping in the back. Anyways, all of a sudden there was a really bad odor. It was John. It was gross. My dad was so mad, I think he thought he was going to get sick. He told John to stop or he was pulling over the van! Ahhh, Christmas memories. Good thing my dad isn't a cop-in particular in Stewart, FL! I'd like to meet this kid, who turned 13 on November 15th. His Mom is protecting his identity-but if we get close enough won't we track him by the smell?
